Harmmerkop: These are medium sized birds that lives along the wet land or marsh areas.

They are called Harmerkop because of their head big crest looks like a top of the hammer

May be because of their ability of building a massive nest that
Weigh 30 - 90kg and reaches a maximum of 90kg


Nest weight is equivalent to a wight of an adult man .
These Nest have several comportment /chambers.
  1. Inner Chamber:- Using for sleeping especially for their youngs.
  2. Middle Chamber:- Used for sleeping once their young are lager and can not be accomodated in Inner chamber.
  3. Hole chamber:- Used strictly as look out point.
Other Behaviors : They always stay in permanent  pairs ( Monogamous )
  • Once they pair up they will start constructing a nest and it's estimated  that they construct one nest per year.
  • Nest Measurements: Weight 30 - 50kg - 90kg   Diameter 1-2M Height 2 - 3feet
